Ireland has been devastated by religious conflict for centuries, but Dr James Golden asks a provocative question: can we understand Irish history better through secularization theory?
This talk will introduce and explore Irish religious history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and test secularization theory through a number of case studies.
studied Theology and History at the University of Edinburgh, before receiving his Doctorate in Modern History from the University of Oxford. He has been Research Associate in the Faculties of Divinity and History at the University of Cambridge. He is completing a book on the politics of Irish religion.
