(US, 2016) Directed and written by Jim Jarmusch. Camera, Frederick Elmes. Poems written by Ron Padgett. Cast: Adam Driver, Golshifteh Farahani, Chasten Harmon, Barry Shabaka Henley, William Jackson Harper, Rizwan Manji.

It’s impossible to say who is in for a happier discovery: Adam Driver fans who haven’t experienced the low-fi joy of a Jim Jarmusch movie (Stranger Than Paradise, Mystery Train); or Jarmusch aficionados who havenít seen the quiet Brando-esque intensity of Adam Driver, (HBO’s Girls, Silence). Paterson stars Driver as a New Jersey busman, who lives a life that touches Zen perfection in its repetition: Cheerios, work, walking the bulldog, eating dinner with his wife (Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani ), and stopping in for one drink at his local dive. The one deviation from the mundane is that Driver is a poet, writing each day as if his life – and soul – depended on it. 118 min.

“I’ve never seen a film that captures the inner world of an artist with such delicacy.” David Edelstein, New York Magazine.
