Carolyn Toner writes: In the plays of Eugene Ionesco, a French absurdist playwright, his characters face life challenges concerning what it means to be human. Like Ionesco himself, they struggle to understand their individuality and morality in a chaotic, absurd world. Most importantly, they come to terms with their own mortality and inevitable death, in an absurdly funny and moving journey. By combining excerpts from Ionesco's plays, "The Lesson," "The Chairs," "Exit the King," "Hunger and Thirst," "Victims of Duty," "Amedee," "A Stroll in the Air," and "The Killer," I have created a hybrid Ionesco play that incorporates these important themes in Ionesco's absurd world.
