(Bulgaria/Greece, 2016) Directors: Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov. Screenplay by Grozeva, Valchanov and Decho Taralezhkov. Cast: Margita Gosheva, Stefan Denolyubov, Kitodar Todorov, Milko Lazarov.

The last time Bulgarian directors Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov worked with actress Margita Gosheva, their film (The Lesson) won the Best Directing and Best Actress Awards the Toronto Film Festival. Their new movie is a bittersweet comedy about the clash between Bulgaria’s rural society, and the movers and shakers who want a more lucrative future, tradition be damned. Margita Gorsheva plays a Ministry PR Head who sets up a televised ceremony to bestow a cheap watch on the isolated railroad linesman (Stefan Denolybov) who turned in a pile of cash he found on the train. When the linesman realizes that the Minister has walked off with his own watch, a valuable family heirloom, he sets off to slay the Goliath of epidemic corruption.

“Margita Gosheva is furiously watchable. A jet black comedy of desperation.” ✰✰✰✰ – Mark Kermode, The Guardian. 101 min.
