Trinity College Department of Music Presents Tony Award-Winner Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs for a New World,” October 26-28

Hartford, Connecticut (October 13, 2017)—The Trinity College Department of Music will present “Songs for a New World,” with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, at Austin Arts Center’s Garmany Hall, Thursday through Saturday, October 26-28, 2017.

Stage direction is by Trinity guest professor/director Julia Kiley, who with the Ivoryton
Playhouse in Essex, Connecticut, appeared in and/or directed upwards of 50 shows, winning a CT Critics Circle award for Sally in “Follies,” and where she served as associate artistic director from 2008-2011. Musical direction is by Joe Ganci, and choreography is by Margaret (Maggie) Powderly ’18.

“The show doesn’t rely on a script or a plot, but on an idea,” explains Kiley, who most recently directed the Seven Angels Theater production of “George and Gracie: the Early Years,” which was chosen as a top pick by Broadway World CT for February 2017. “To quote the opening number, ‘It’s about one moment, the moment you think you know where you stand.’ That theme runs through this evening of some of the most moving and exciting songs written for the musical theater in decades.

“As we listen, we can all relate to the way one decision, one bend in the road, one twist of fate can turn our world upside down. The beauty is in the fact that we learn, we cope, we grow, and we carry on. We make our way to a New World,” Kiley explains.

The cast members are: Roxana Alvarez, Georgia Beckmann, Eliza Croarkin, Patrick Ganci, Cedrick Ikra, Brielle McDonald, Christopher Perkowski, and Maura Thompson.

“Songs for a New World” will be performed on Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but tickets are required; call the Austin Arts Center box office at (860) 297-2199.
