(Sweden, 2016). Directed by Hannes Holm, based on the novel by Fredrik Backman . Cast: Rolf Lassgârd, Bahar Pars, Tobias Almborg, Ida Engvoll.

You may have already heard the buzz about the bittersweet comedy out of Sweden that features a refreshing lack of crime – even if its star Rolf Lassgârd did once play Wallander in the original Swedish TV series! Lassgârd plays Ove, a lonely and rigid retiree who is torn between joining his wife in the afterlife, and sticking around to keep his careless and messy neighbors in a gated community in line. When a stray cat and a new family move in – including an Iranian mother and various noisy kids – Ove’s dilemma moves into overdrive. Nobody ever said that change was easy, but this delightful movie makes it feel eminently worthwhile.
“A Man Called Ove finds the extraordinary in the ordinary pulse of life.” Tom Long, Detroit News. 116 min.
